The ‘Do the Diu drive 2016’ began on an exciting note at 8:00 a.m. from Busker’s Corner at S.G. Highway to leave for Diu. The ride included solo riders, riding clubs and couples. Many riders joined us at multiple locations and many connected with us by directly riding from Rajkot, Bhavnagar as well as other locations across Gujarat. All of us set off for the ride of a lifetime.
The events also witnessed strong participation from riders of Diu. Riders were accompanied by a team of medical experts, automobile support and support team with support vehicle to provide any necessary assistance during the journey if required.
The ‘DoTheDiuDrive2016’ route was from Ahmedabad via Dhandhuka to Savarkundla to Diu traversing 357 kms & alternate route (Distance on the route is around 500 kms) for super bikes & low ground clearance bikes was Ahmedabad>Rajkot>Junagadh>Veraval>Diu. The riders made it to Diu in different groups.
The ride was nearly flawless except 1 odd bike puncture during the last phase of the ride but it was taken care off without wasting too much of time. One of the riders, Megha Vyas Banker from Ahmedabad on a Bajaj Avenger had a minor injury when she was bitten by a honeybee during the ride. She was administered with first aid very promptly & she set off all ready to rage on in a few minutes.
On reaching Diu, the riders retired to their respective rooms in three different hotels namely Hoka Island, Hotel Kohinoor & Dream Vision Guest House. They then dressed up ready to celebrate the ride at the beats of DJ Pranav Seth who is also the part of Core Team of DoTheDiuDrive2016, DJ in FestaDeDiu & who also had great memories of DoTheDiuDrive2015. The event was followed by dinner for riders organized at the Kohinoor Hotel in Diu. Dancing to the foot tapping beats until late night, the riders retired for the night to continue this exciting experience of the Do The Diu journey the next morning.
On the morning of Saturday, 9th Jan, the riders assembled at the Hoka Resort & few of them at their respective hotels at Nagoa Beach for a breakfast session filled with stories of their new adventure, lots of banter, laughter and delicious food. After spending some time at the Nagoa beach, by late morning the riders reached Chakratirth Beach where the teams enjoyed the ultimate volleyball match over the wager of free booze.
After two hours on the beach, the riders went about the island exploring the remnants of the Diu fort followed by the natural ‘Nadia caves’ while passing by the serene mangroves of the unique Hoka trees that Diu is famous for. After an appetite-gratifying lunch, the riders and their beloved bikes took a 15 odd kms ride to a nearby unexplored island of Diu where they were amazed to ride on the beach and enjoyed the experience of going to Simar which is a part of Diu. All riders while returning assembled at Diu Check Post By 5:15 PM where they were also joined with local riders and participated in the Diu Ride which started from check post going through Nagoa, to the fort, covering major parts of Diu & reached the Bikers Arena created by DoTheDiu for the bike show with EDM Session by DJ Pranav Sheth, with the support of the Administration of Diu, department of tourism and the police department of Diu. An overwhelming turnout of 3.5-4000 people including tourists and the locals showed up for the bike stunt show.
The music, the energy and the crowd’s encore at the amazing show by the participants of ‘Do the Diu Drive 2016’ and professional bike stunt by Gujarat Stunt Riders Mr. Imran Sacha, Munna Sheikh & Mayur enthralled all those who witnessed this amazing moment. The riders performed a series of stunts including, wheelies and burnouts. The crowd went mad at the sight of a young daredevil, performing stunts on his cycle which was modified to a mini motorcycle.
After exploring the fest, the riders retired to their respective rooms to enjoy a peaceful dinner and much needed rest to get ready for the next day’s return journey. Some riders decided to let their hair down and party all out while others chose to enjoy some much needed sleep.
After the invigorating sleep the previous night and fuelled by the confidence of the ‘Do the Diu’ ride, the riders set out in groups to the routes of their respective cities on the return journey. The organizers stayed in touch & provided assistance as required with them during the entire course of their trip ready to provide any support they needed till Sunday late night, thus ensuring that everyone reached safely home without any casualties.
The event could not have been possible without the unrelenting support of the Administration of Diu, Daman & Dadra Nagar Haveli, Collector of Diu, Superintendent of Police, Police Department, PDW Department, Electrical Department, Department of Tourism, People of Diu, our ride partners, our team. But, most of all, it could not have been possible without the spirit and contagious enthusiasm of all our riders who broke all barriers to come together as a brotherhood of Riders & friends for ever, who are in touch with each other through whatsaap groups and various other mediums.
